How Long Does Banana Bread Last? Does Banana Bread Go Bad?

Save for Later!

When you want to conserve the taste of the bread then you need to use the correct storage measures.

Banana bread generally has a shelf life of 3-4 days only.

But because of poor storage, the bread gets spoiled in 1 or 2 days.

All of them have a certain best-before date labeled on them but with good storage conditions, you can make it last beyond that date.

If you make them at home then there are chances that they can last for more than 3 to 4 days.

Because pieces of bread bought from the stores contains substance and elements that make them lose their texture as soon as they are opened.

However one can extend the life of homemade bread by keeping it in the fridge for 7 days.

Store bread only lasts for 1 or 2 days in the pantry and in the fridge, its shelf life can be increased to 1 to 3 days.

By cold temperature, it becomes easy to retain the quality of the loaf for a longer period.

But be sure to store the bread in a container before putting it in the fridge.

Save for Later!
  • Mold .

Bread and cakes have a soft texture because they have moisture in them.

Because of this they develop mold easily and make the bread bad in no time.

There are times when the bread looks fine from the outside but can have mold inside them.

Thus be sure to slice and check molds before you have a leftover loaf.

  • Discoloration .

If you found an old bread piece then try to notice changes in its color.

If the color is turned to a darker shade then avoid eating the bread.

One can also notice dark spots around a specific area.

That can be because of the bacteria rotting a particular area of bread.

  • Off or Foul Smell.

Another test that shows promising results to find bad banana bread is the smell test.

When the bread is not fresh anymore it will develop an off smell that one can identify.

As time passes the bread absorbs the smells of things surrounding it.

That is why you should not store the bread around foods with a strong smell.

  • Texture.

Fresh bread has a certain texture that is soft and spongy.

But as soon as the bread loses its freshness the soft texture will become firm.

So you can touch and press the bread and if the texture is firm then you have to throw the loaf out as it has gone bad.

How to Store Banana Bread?

Save for Later!
  • Airtight Container .

While storing the bread you need to be sure that moisture and air do not interact with it.

Thus it would be better to store them in airtight containers or freezing bags.

This will help you to keep the bread safe from any liquid or water.

  • Plastic Wraps .

To cover and restrict contact with other elements you should add layering around it.

You can add the loaf in plastic wrap and then store it to avoid drying of bread in the pantry.

Sometimes excess sunlight and heat can dry out your loaf thus a plastic cover is a must to preserve its texture and nutrients.

  • Freeze the Loaf.

If you are unable to complete the loaf of your bread in a few days then you can put it in the freezer.

You can use an aluminum or plastic cover to add a protective layer to your bread.

Once you have put the bread in the freezer then before using it you need to keep the loaf in the fridge also for defrosting.
