What is Margarita?

Save for Later!

This is a cocktail drink that is made with tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and citrus fruits.

For making a glass of margarita cocktail you need to pour some of it into a shaker, add other ingredients, then add ice and give it all a good mix.

But as everyone might not be able to make them thus margarita mixes are also available in the market.

Just with a few steps one can make a good margarita drink at home.

This drink is also served by applying salt at the rim of the glass.

As a margarita recipe varies from place to place thus you can also find some of them that consist of simple syrup.

You can also get different variations in the drink as it can be served on rocks (with ice), straight up (without ice), or even frozen (blended with ice).

Save for Later!

When you are storing margarita mix for a special occasion then you must know what time it can offer you the best taste.

Some people think that the shelf life of margarita lapses as it passes its best by date.

However, that is not at all relevant because it is just an estimated date that only indicates the date until its flavors are at peak.

After the best by date, the mix will lose its potency but the shelf is longer than that.

In the pantry, an unopened mix can be stored for up to 1 year beyond the best-by date.

However, once the pack of the mix is open then this serving period will become shorter so it will be better to store them in the refrigerator.

When these mixes are frozen or refrigerated then you can use them for 6 to 9 months.

Some people also prefer making margarita drinks at home but these must not be stored in the pantry or at room temperature.

Although these can only be stored for 1 to 2 weeks even in the refrigerator as they do not include added preservatives thus they do not have a longer shelf life.

How to Tell if Margarita Has Gone Bad?

Save for Later!
  • Sniff the Mix

When you open a new pack of margarita mix you can understand how good they smell.

But this fragrance does not last forever.

That is because as you store the pack it tends to lose its aroma and develop a bad smell when it gets bad.

Therefore you can sniff the mix that you have found and if it has developed a foul odor then you should discard it.

  • Taste the Mix

Another good way to find bad margarita mixes is by tasting them.

If you are not sure about the storage period then you can take a little bit of mix out of the pack and taste it.

You already know how the fresh mix tastes if it tastes mild then you can use the margarita mix.

But if it is offering a sour flavor then you must throw it out.

  • Lumps in Mix

Make sure you take out the entire mix and see if there is any lump or clusters present in the mold.

Lumps occur in the mixture when they are an excess exposure to air or moisture.

Therefore if your margarita mix has lumps that mean they are gone bad because of excess moisture.

How to Store Margarita?

Save for Later!
  • Heat and Sunlight

Storing margarita mix is not that hard when you know who your enemies are.

The major cause is heat and direct sunlight because excess heat or a warmer temperature will degrade the quality and flavor of your mix.

  • Use Airtight Container

When you are storing liquor, syrups, or even mixes then it is crucial to use airtight containers.

Because once your pack or bottle is open then the process of oxidation becomes faster and your mix will begin to lose its quality more quickly.

Thus an airtight container is perfect as it will preserve the mix from air ad moisture.

  • Refrigerate

If the packet is unopened then it can help you a lot as this will not affect the mix a lot as they are entirely sealed.

But as you open the pack then it will be had to save the mix. Therefore it will be better if you store it in the refrigerator.

This will increase its shelf life and for complete protection, you can put the mix in a Ziploc bag to remove everything that can affect its freshness.

Conclusion

After reading the above information you can find when your margarita mix is fine to eat and when it's not.

Storing the mix according to the earlier mentioned storing measures will help you to save your mixes for a longer period.

If one provides a cooler environment to their mixes then they can retain their flavor for a longer period.

However, when the pack is closed then storing at room temperature is recommended.
